World Water Day 2026
Swadhina was founded in 1986 to work for changing the life and livelihood of women and children. Currently we are working in the state of Jharkhand located in the eastern region of India, in the following areas: Women's empowerment through awareness creation, increased access to land and land based activities and income generation, promotion of good health through sustainable organic farming. Children's overall development is sought through pre primary education centres, skill training for adolescent girls, academic educational guidance for school goers. Water plays an important role as we focus on the above activities. For women, water is essential for their agricultural work, sustenance of family. Access to land without access to water is useless. Swadhina conducted water and sanitation programme for the women and adolescent girls, creating awareness at the villages on importance of safe drinking water, menstrual hygiene and sanitation, safe practices for personal hygiene etc. Preservation of water is an important issue in Jharkhand which a drought prone dry area where agriculture is rainfed. In the past, Swadhina focussed on construction of small water boxes near the agricultural land to store rain water which are usually washed away.
